Cajo Brendel died on June 26th. He was over 90 years old but remained committed to the emancipation of the working class until the last. One of the last of the Dutch Left who was an associate of Anton Pannekoek he was also the animator of the Dutch councilist group Daad en Gedachte.
Although we opposed his councilism (which denied the party was also a necessary instrument in the liberation of the proletariat and, which we considered to be an unfortunate reaction to the degeneration of the Russian Revolution), we salute his integrity and his commitment to the cause of the working class. A longer appreciation will appear in our French language publications.
